GLUCOSE / A1C REFERENCE
A1c to average glucose chart
This chart lists common A1c results alongside the estimated average glucose (eAG) each one corresponds to, in both mg/dL and mmol/L. The figures come from the ADAG study formula: eAG (mg/dL) = 28.7 × A1c − 46.7.
| A1c | eAG (mg/dL) | eAG (mmol/L) |
|---|---|---|
| 5.0% | 97 | 5.4 |
| 5.5% | 111 | 6.2 |
| 5.7% | 117 | 6.5 |
| 6.0% | 125 | 6.9 |
| 6.5% | 140 | 7.8 |
| 7.0% | 154 | 8.5 |
| 7.5% | 169 | 9.4 |
| 8.0% | 183 | 10.2 |
| 8.5% | 197 | 10.9 |
| 9.0% | 212 | 11.8 |
| 10.0% | 240 | 13.3 |
| 11.0% | 269 | 14.9 |
| 12.0% | 298 | 16.5 |
A few things worth keeping in mind when reading a chart like this:
- eAG reflects an average over roughly the past 2–3 months, not a single moment in time.
- Two people with the same A1c can have different day-to-day glucose patterns — one might run steady, another might swing between highs and lows that average out to the same number.
- Certain conditions affecting red blood cells can shift how accurately A1c reflects true average glucose for a given person.
If you'd rather enter your own exact A1c value and get an instant conversion (including a mg/dL ↔ mmol/L toggle), use the calculator below instead of scanning the table.
